Since synthetic ascorbic acid has the same chemical structure as natural vitamin C, it has so far been difficult or even impossible to distinguish between them.
Through a research project by the Joanneum Research Graz with the University of Graz, a test method has been developed where it can be determined whether Acerola or Camu Camu powder contains only natural L-ascorbic acid or whether synthetic or bio-technologically produced (“GMO”) L-ascorbic acid has been subsequently added.
