HANDO® – NOPAL
The production of Nopal powder
HANDO® stands for high quality standards in production and processing: only cacti from pristine ecosystems are used in the production of Nopal powder.
Vitamin C, calcium, potassium and beta-carotene are just some of the active ingredients of Nopal. In order to maintain the quality of the nutrients, HANDO® attaches great importance to high quality in the production and processing of Nopal powder.
Nopal: Use as tea or powder
Two types of cactus are particularly important for processing. The Nopal species “Opuntia ficus indica” is mainly used for tea. The cacti needed for this, grow on natural soils without artificial irrigation and without the use of synthetic fertilizers. This is the only way to ensure the highest quality. In order to achieve optimum drying results, the cactus shreds are placed in foil tunnels.
Dried in the sun, they turn black through oxidation. In the drying chambers, Nopal tea retains a lighter colour. There, the Nopal shreds are turned by hand every day. The tea is used to support cholesterol-conscious diets.
Wild growing cacti from untouched ecosystems of the species “Opuntia streptacantha” are the basis for Nopal powder. The Nopal leaves are first cut, then dried and finally ground into powder. One kilogram of HANDO® Nopal powder is obtained from five kilograms of fresh Nopal leaves.
